Charlie and His Chocolate Factory

Charlie and His Chocolate Factory

Well, I suppose it’s not really Charlie’s Chocolate Factory but it seems right to call it that.  On the first day of our Harry and David tour, we got a behind the scenes look at their chocolate factory.  And, who else should be in charge of the “Chocolate Factory” but someone whose name is Charlie, of course!  Can you stand it?  Roald Dahl would be so proud.

Charlie and His Chocolate Factory

First we saw how the world famous Moose Munch was made.  Moose Munch is popcorn covered in caramel, almonds, cashews, and chocolate.  Charlie showed us how the Moose Munch was made in giant popcorn poppers.

After being popped, the popcorn and caramel get mixed together.

The popcorn is coated and dried separately so it doesn’t all clump together.

At the end, the chocolate covered corn and nuts are added.

All of the Moose Munch is packaged by hand.  I’m sure this is not the most cost effective method but Harry and David really goes the extra step in adding the human touch to their products.

Of course, when I got home and the Harry and David gift baskets arrived, my attempts at hiding these goodies from my family failed.  None of us had ever had Moose Munch before and we loved it.  I recall someone saying  “It’s a beautiful love story in my mouth!” but I was so busy indulging in Moose Munch, I lost track of who was talking!

As my kids were parting for school the next day, they reminded me to please keep away from their Moose Munch.  Huh?  Their Moose Munch?

  1. Moose Munch Makes Me Happy <3

    1. Leslie, me too! I especially like the end of the bag, once I’ve cut the top off and I have a spoon to get every last morsel…yum!

  2. Two things struck me (besides knowing that Harry and David put out good products). (1) Harry and David package by hand – thank you to them for providing jobs for people. (2) All this is done at home (USA) – not oversees. Yea!

    1. I was amazed at how much “human touch” they have at their facility. They care about putting out a quality product and about their employees. Thanks for the comment!
