This meal plan is our vacation meal plan from the week we spent in San Francisco, California for our home exchange. The house we stayed in had a great kitchen that was well stocked and we gave the kitchen a workout! I brought some staple food items with us and the rest of our food we bought in Chinatown, at local bakeries, and at Trader Joe’s. All the stores were within walking distance of our house and we even had a little market at the end of our block which came in handy when we needed an onion at the last-minute.
Weekly Meal Plan
This meal plan is from Monday, March 26, 2012 to Sunday, April 1, 2012. I’ve added our vacation meal plan sheets at the bottom, just for fun. It was a great trip and you’ll find more posts about it next week.
Monday: shrimp scampi, green salad, focaccia bread (from Liguria’s Focaccia Bakery)
Tuesday: grilled salmon, quinoa salad
Wednesday: quinoa salad (leftover) and pan seared green beans with Asian sauce
Thursday: grilled bok choy with pan seared pork, onions and noodles
Friday: grilled bok choy with pan seared pork, onions and noodles (leftover)
Saturday: grilled cheese sandwiches (with bread from Acme Bread and green salad
Sunday: pinto beans (freezer) and cheese burritos with salsa
I loved being able to walk to the stores and not have to get in my car for a meal. We even had a cute little grocery cart to shop with. (Notice how my son wouldn’t pull the cute cart behind him? Teenage boys are like that!) We didn’t break anything during our home exchange (a first) so hopefully we can do another swap at the same house!
We didn’t go out to dinner but we did go out to lunch. We hit the Ferry Building Market on Thursday and had a delicious lunch from the food trucks Roli Roti and Hapa Ramen. With beautiful weather, we sat outside and enjoyed the food and sunshine.
Our drive home to Portland, Oregon was 11 hours and we didn’t stop for fast food, even though someone spotted an In-N-Out Burger along the freeway. Luckily, I had a counter-offer to a stop for fast food. We had brought dumplings from a great friend recommendation, Good Mong Kok Bakery in Chinatown in the car with us. The line was out the door to get them and they were excellent cold so I can only imagine how good they would be warm.

Your menu looks great! I love that you can cook at home and enjoy lunch out. Dinners out with kids can be crazy expensive – especially when my kids don’t actually eat the dinner. I would never be able to pass up an In-And-Out Burger – we miss that way too much living on the East Coast!
In-n-out are hard to pass up! Dinners are expensive in a restaurant and eating at home is much more relaxing. Yes, clean-up still needs to happen but I say everybody eats so everybody helps clean up! Thanks Annie!
