Coffee Table Tale
Design Sponge posted recently about tray tables and I was admiring how practical and useful tray tables are. Then I remembered – I have a tray table – that I made. It’s the coffee table in our living room and the table base part used to be a bench. I don’t have the part that {Read more about Coffee Table Tale}
Just Slip-Cover It!
Please stop me. I know there’s probably medication for this but I just can’t help myself. Since our bathroom project is 99% done and all that’s left is hanging artwork on the walls, I had to sew this little back of toilet slip-cover. Had to. It’s gingham, it’s on the bias, and it’s using leftovers {Read more about Just Slip-Cover It!}
Light Lanterns for Garden
These sweet little lanterns hang from the lilac tree in our backyard. I bought them at the Goodwill Clearance Center (otherwise known as “The Bins” because everything is piled up in bins and you have to dig around to find your treasures). The lanterns were attached to lights that didn’t work so I removed the {Read more about Light Lanterns for Garden}
Gingham Drawer Liners
When you love gingham like I do, you’re always looking for ways to incorporate it into a room. Our bathroom re-do was no different and even the flooring is in a gingham pattern but the squares are so big, I don’t think anyone really noticed. One of the final components to finishing the bathroom was {Read more about Gingham Drawer Liners}
Totally Tubular Aluminum Chair
image credit: Canoe Here’s a question from a reader, Robin, who was forced to buy a chair while she was out shopping with her very stylishly frugal friend – me! Robin’s house is mid-century modern and she has fabulous taste. This modern rocking chair, which does need fixing will look great in her house. Robin {Read more about Totally Tubular Aluminum Chair}
Abraham Lincoln Love
Happy Birthday, Mr. Lincoln, we sure do love you. Around here we celebrate Lincoln’s birthday with a cake or special cookies. And for some strange reason the kids have created the February 12th tradition of my husband (who is absolutely NOT a dunker) having to dunk a cookie in milk. Whether you know only the {Read more about Abraham Lincoln Love}
Super Bowl Sunday Love
This is not about football, even though it is about Super Bowl Sunday. I love Super Bowl Sunday because I love my dining room rug. If you’re wondering how these could possibly be related, they are. The bidding on my dining room rug, which I purchased used from eBay, ended on Super Bowl Sunday. If {Read more about Super Bowl Sunday Love}
Found: One Claw Foot
The bathroom do it yourself project hit a sticking point early on. We had no idea but our claw foot bathtub was missing a foot. I really don’t know how this happened but that’s part of the joy of owning an old house – surprises. With a claw foot in hand, we headed to Hippo {Read more about Found: One Claw Foot}
Displaying Holiday Cards
Displaying Christmas and holiday cards is a time honored tradition. In our house, it takes place almost all the time, as in practically year round. I love displaying holiday cards sent from friends and family. Displaying holiday cards longer than just the festive season isn’t laziness or a desire to have more dust collectors around {Read more about Displaying Holiday Cards}
Tree Topper Tale
Whenever I make something and think to myself, well, someday I’ll replace this with something better someone should stop me. So often, when someday arrives, what I’ve made for “temporary” purposes works out just fine. This Christmas tree topper is a perfect example of a project I made because there was a need, we wanted {Read more about Tree Topper Tale}

Mitered Cloth Napkins for Thanksgiving
I love setting a pretty table for Thanksgiving. Several years ago, I sewed a table-cloth for our Thanksgiving table. It was inspired by a quilt I made for my son and has a real harvest look and feel to it. Having leftover fabric (like any good sewer would!) from the Thanksgiving table-cloth, I knew someday {Read more about Mitered Cloth Napkins for Thanksgiving}
Thanksgiving Table Cloth
Whenever I learn a new sewing technique (read “trick”) I try to implement it in other areas. I also like to sew table-cloths or coverings for seasonal decorating that can be re-used year after year. Quilting or piecing is a technique I learned when making a quilt for my son. This is a simple table-cloth {Read more about Thanksgiving Table Cloth}
Finding Inspiration for a Bathroom Re-Do
We’re planning to re-do our bathroom soon. I’m using that term “re-do” rather loosely. We “re-did” our bathroom 13 years ago prior to our daughter’s baptism. We had family coming into town for the celebration and while our newborn and 2-year-old napped, we painted every surface in the bathroom – including the original Marmoleum floor. {Read more about Finding Inspiration for a Bathroom Re-Do}
