Just Get Started

Just-Get-StartedMonday: Entrepreneurship
When it comes to clever marketing campaigns, Nike’s tag line is usually at the top.  They certainly get credit for the phrase “Just Do It” which is a good one.  But I think the more difficult part is to “Just Get Started.”  My marketing campaign is “Just Get Started” because often times, that’s the hardest part.

Years ago, back in 1999 to be exact, I registered the domain name BabyMoo because I had lots of ideas around babies.  Babies were on my mind!  I had a 6-month-old and a 2-1/2-year-old so I also had my hands full.  My plans for BabyMoo would have to wait.  As my kids got older, I became involved with our community and volunteering at school.  As time went by, I continued to renew the domain BabyMoo thinking I’d eventually do something with it.  Finally, when both of my kids were in middle school, I realized the domain didn’t work for me any longer, no matter how hard I tried to make it work.

After several brainstorming sessions and “all nighters” (read: my husband and I stayed up until 10pm talking about all the ideas that were spinning around in my head), I changed gears and Go Gingham was born.  For me, I was so hung up on using something that was no longer a focus.  Yes, I had had babies and sewed blankets, stroller blankets, diaper pads, and nursing pads.  I even sold plenty of them.  But, I was done with the “baby” phase and ready to launch a business based on what I loved doing and was passionate about.

Just Get Started

Just getting started was the hardest part.  Deciding to let go of something I’d been thinking about for years to dive into what could become a long-term business idea took a conscious effort.  But taking that first step and just getting started gave me the motivation I needed to pursue my goal.

Just get started.  Today.  Do what you’ve dreamed of doing.  Just get started.

  1. Lol. Sara, I had the exact same thing happen to me. I had a domain that I registered back in 1999, and was always putting it off as I was doing other things. I kept that for such a long time, paying my annual fees and whatnot. I’ve done that a couple of times with ideas, registered the domain but they don’t go anywhere. Thanks for he post, it’s great motivation.

  2. I definitely agree that “just getting started” is hard to do. It seems scary at first, but once you get started you begin to enjoy what you are doing and it’s totally worth it.

    1. Oh Petra….you are so right about figuring out the dream. I’ve been going through files looking for old savings charts and finding notes to myself about my dream. You never know where a path will lead and I’m trying to embrace that path of not knowing. Your Baby Island made me smile. Maybe Baby Island and Baby Moo could be friends!!
