Weekly Meal Plan

Weekly Meal Plan
I always meal plan before making my grocery list. My method is very low-tech but works for our family.

Whole Foods Market contacted me recently to ask if I’d like to participate in their 28-day healthy meal plan challenge and share my progress on Go Gingham. I had to decline. Honestly, I’m afraid readers are tired of reading about what we’re eating for dinner. Because we stopped eating out as a money saving tactic and realized we didn’t miss going to restaurants, we eat at home every single night.

It’s not always glamorous eating but it is healthy but sometimes my kids grumble about it. “Lentils? Again?” or something along those lines, but aside from having to do the dishes, we don’t miss eating out at all. Well, I AM about ready to go out to my favorite sushi restaurant. Raw fish is not something I’m prepared to handle in my kitchen.

I may be getting tired of sharing our weekly meal plans, too. This is the 43rd week of our weekly meal plan and once I reach  52 weeks, I’m going to drop writing about them. You can find all the meal plans here if you need some more ideas.

If you’d like to take the Whole Foods 28-Day Challenge, check here. I like how it sounds and if you find a good recipe, please share!

Weekly Meal Plan

Sunday evening or Monday morning is my meal planning day. I plan before heading to the grocery store. With weekly meal planning we save money and it helps us to reduce food waste. I no longer say, “Let’s go out to eat!” because we have a plan – to eat at home.

This meal plan is from Monday, December 31, 2012 to Sunday, January 6, 2013 .

Monday: Mexican pulled pork (leftover in freezer), pinto beans, and fresh salsa – on corn tortillas

Tuesday: whole wheat pasta with sauteed shrimp and scallops and green salad

Wednesday: split pea soup (with homemade broth) and shredded carrots

Thursday: split pea soup (with homemade broth) and shredded carrots (leftovers)

Friday: pan seared trout, Cajun chicken sausages, Caesar salad and pumpkin pie (this was my husband’s birthday dinner!)

Saturday: whole wheat pasta with zucchini, mushrooms, onions and white beans (beans were from freezer)

Sunday: pan seared green beans (we made chicken nuggets for a football watching party for lunch so had to go light on dinner!)

Homemade chicken nuggets
Homemade chicken nuggets: total treat for watching the Washington Redskins on network TV. Sadly, they lost the game.

My daughter made dinner on Tuesday and my son made dinner on Saturday.

Do you meal plan every week or do you do it monthly?

  2. Hey Sara,
Thank you for the e mail. When I go to the beach I’ll wave up the coast to your mom :)!
I love hearing your meal plans & I’d love a blank on your grocery list & dinner planner! Can you post blank ones for us to copy? I think that’s half my battle is sitting & remembering what to write, If I had that list what a breeze to ck off what to buy and plan a whole week of meals to serve.
Thanks for all your great ideas & bless you for sharing them.
