Hello Site Re-Do

Go Gingham - Real Food + Green Living + Healthy Lifestyle

Well, it’s finally done – Go Gingham’s site re-do. Our IT department has been hard at work the last few months and they’re still working through some kinks so if you find a broken link or something doesn’t load properly, please let our web developer me know.

Why re-do Go Gingham?

This site is now “mobile responsive.” What does that mean? Regardless of the size screen, or device you favor, Go Gingham will look great on it. It renders a slightly different version on smaller screens (smart phones) but should behave properly. You’ll be able to read it easier.

The archives page has never worked well – until now. Now, you can scroll through and see content by year and by title. With over 700 blog posts, it’s easier to find an oldy-but-goody. (Here’s the updated archives page.)

We changed our tag line, too

Just a little bit – but the content will remain the same – Real Food + Green Living + Healthy Lifestyle. It’s how we live and that’s the message we want to share. Well, actually we want to share that message everywhere – rooftops included! Living well doesn’t have to cost a lot – to the environment, to ourselves, or to our budgets.

We hope to inspire you with real food recipes, creating a green home, and living a healthy lifestyle – all with style.

But wait, I thought you were frugal?

Yes, you are right – very frugal! My husband and I have always been frugal – since we got married 25-years ago – but in 2008, we stepped up our frugal game. The start-up company Brad was working for went down and we decided to both become self-employed – and live on less. Rather than continue in the rat-race of working long hours and less family time, we chose time together over bigger incomes. (We consider time a luxury.)

Making time for reading Go Gingham
Time is a luxury – and so is reading by a lake!

Lots of people come to this site looking for ‘frugal’ – cheapskate living and coupon clipping. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with those activities, but that’s not our version of frugal.

Our version of frugal is “fewer resources” – and that includes money. It’s sustainable living – meaning you keep at it because it’s a lifestyle and not just for a set period of time. It’s good for our health, good for the environment, and good for the pocketbook. Fewer resources usually means less money but not always. Cheap can also have a negative impact on the earth.

It’s living well, on less and with style. I like to do everything with a little style. (Healthy and frugal living make a good pair, too!)

Many, many thanks to you – the readers!

Thank you to everyone who took the online survey! It was fun reading all of your responses and yes, I had a typo. As soon as I hit publish, I found it but it was too late to change it.

Thank you for reading Go Gingham – and for subscribing – and for following along on all of the social media channels. While I’d much rather have everyone over for coffee, tea, and scones right out of the oven, this is working for me. I hope it works for you, too.

What do you think of the site re-do? Have you found any links that don’t work?

  1. Minor glitch this morning. When I clicked on “read on” in the email, it took me to the home page instead of today’s post. Not a big deal, but I’m not sure it’s what you wanted.
Otherwise, I think the redo is great!

    1. OK, thanks for that heads-up…I’ll have to check all the clicks – and I haven’t updated the newsletter images, etc. – yet.
Thanks for reading and leaving feedback ~

  2. Love the redo, Sara! I’ve been reading your blog for over a year, now, and it is truly my favorite. If I only have time to read ONE blog or article, it’s always yours I read. You really have confirmed, and often changed, the way I think about frugality, waste, the environment, etc. I also believe you practice what you preach and that you are entirely genuine – something I don’t say often. Thank you, and I look forward to reading your blog for many years to come!

    1. Oh, Vanessa, how nice! Truly – one of the goals of this site is to be genuine, authentic, and true to how I/we live. Thank you!!
ps I look forward to reading your site as well 🙂

  3. Looks good, Sara–although you know that I’ll read your blog no matter what it looks like. 🙂 I like good content, and you deliver. I think that what resonates most with me is that you value time over material goods. We all need “stuff”–houses, etc.–but by living a simpler, slower lifestyle, we can enjoy our “stuff” more and spend more time with the people we love doing the activities we want to do. I think that my frugality and somewhat green lifestyle (nowhere near as green as yours … ) are the by-product of my desire to slow down and smell the roses.

  4. Looks great! But it’s the content that makes it – I really appreciated the time and care you put into your posts.

    1. Thank you so much, Amy! That means a lot to me coming from you –
Frugal can be misunderstood easily. I like the lifestyle of less – on many levels.
Hope your 2015 is off to a good start, Amy!!
