Yes, I Love Chairs

Yes I Love ChairsThey say the first step in acknowledging you have a problem is admitting it.  Well, I have a problem with chairs.  You could call it a chair obsession if you wanted to.  I like to think of them as my entertainment.  So I love chairs – what’s the big deal?  They’re free, on the sidewalk, and I can fix them up, when I’m not re-doing bathrooms.  There’s no harm in bringing home a few chairs, right?  My husband would disagree.  He says my collection looks like flood waters have hit and then receded leaving behind a gigantic mangled up mess of chairs stacked in the basement or hanging in the garage or used for other things!

Yes I Love Chairs

Sometimes they’re used instead of a billboard if you need to announce a play that’s taking place in your backyard.

Yes I Love Chairs

Most are simply waiting for their turn for a chair makeover.

Yes I Love Chairs

Chairs do regularly get fixed up and brought “upstairs” from the basement.  Some are getting done but not quite finished.  This one needs a little slip-cover which I’m sure I’ll be getting to very soon.

Yes I Love Chairs

This little chair was in the back of a pick-up truck headed to the dump.  I left a note with my address asking the owner if he would please drop off the rocker on my front porch rather than trashing it.  He brought it over and ended up chatting with my husband for an hour.  It broke my heart to think it would be tossed into a garbage pile.  It needs a new rail thing on the bottom of it.

Yes I Love Chairs

There’s quite a stack of chairs in our basement right now.  I may have to have a garage sale because it looks like a game of musical chairs gone bad.

Yes I Love Chairs

You’ll be happy to know someone just called me to say they had a chair for me.  I politely declined.  Yes, my name is Sara and I have a problem with chairs.

Yes I Love Chairs

Yes, I do love chairs.

Do you love chairs?  Have a secret collection of something else?  What do you bring home that’s free?

    1. Thanks Annie! It’s hard to see that chair on a daily basis…it’s usually got dirty laundry and pillows piled on it but I’m NOT mentioning any names here!! I may have to open a chair store 🙂

  2. That last chair with the pink print is so much like a chair of my grandmother’s that I’m about to give away because I have no place to put it. Plus it needs new padding, etc., which I’m not sure I want to take on. But boy, your chair is making me have second thoughts. But I don’t have a basement, or a garage to store it in until one of my sons decides to leave home and turn his room over to me. (lol). Oh, what to do…

    1. Mary Ann, keep the chair! You have to! It’s a family heirloom 🙂 My little chair was in such rough shape but with all the rough spots covered with fabric, you can’t even tell. Good luck!

  3. Oh, dear–I have a chair obsession as well. I’ve got five waiting in the wings for a makeover right now. It’s a good thing I don’t sew, or my problem would be worse. I only collect chairs that can be beautified using sandpaper, paint, fabric and a staple gun.

    1. Sheryl, I like how you have standards. I should probably adopt a few myself! I do pass on tufted back upholstered chairs because I can’t do those myself. Or can I? 😉

  4. I just found your blog through Sorta Crunchy, and poking around I found this post–which is why I know I have to come back again regularly! I have a chair problem, too. It’s become a family joke. I don’t know what it is about the chairs that (I swear!) find me, but I want to keep (and fix) them all! Glad to know I’m not the only one…
