Green Living Tip 24 {Use Maps for Gift Wrapping}

Green Living Gift Wrap with Maps Go Gingham

Today’s green living tip: use maps for gift wrapping. It’s green, unique, and saves money to wrap gifts with maps. Old maps are abundant (and extremely inexpensive, or free) at garage and estate sales. There may even be a stash of them in your basement or storage area.

Maps can be cut and used to wrap gifts just like wrapping paper. Add a pretty ribbon and your gift will be all the rage at your next party. The presents look great and they’re different from the regular, run of the mill store bought, gift wrapping paper. (Here’s are more sustainable holiday ideas.)

Try a map for your next gift wrapping project. It will look so pretty – the recipient may not even want to open the gift! OK, they will – everyone loves to open a present – but they’ll appreciate the uniqueness of your map.

What do you like to wrap gifts in? Do you have a use for old maps?

  1. Many years ago, when our 4 nephews were small, I used the Sunday comics to wrap gifts. In those days, we still had home delivery of the newspaper. It was different, and also inexpensive; some of their gifts were rather large, and took lots of paper to cover.

    1. Brilliant! I love that look and an excellent way to use the newspaper.
      We still get the newspaper delivered – although it’s not everyday any longer. It’s how we start each day – reading the paper. The digital version isn’t quite the same…
      Thanks, Karen! 🙂

  2. I’ve used old grocery bags as gift wrap and tied them with something fun … or, if I’m mailing a gift (especially one I’ve hand-knit, as I don’t need terribly sturdy paper for that) I’ll wrap it in tissue paper (I reuse tissue) with a pretty ribbon or the coordinating yarn. I confess, I absolutely hate to wrap gifts, so I’m most likely to re-purpose gift bags!
