Delicious Olive Oil Garlic Bread

California olive oil updated garlic bread

When I was growing up, we had garlic bread with dinner often. Dripping in butter and sprinkled with garlic salt; it tasted so good. When I began cooking for my own family, I wanted to continue the yummy garlic bread tradition but I wanted it to be healthier. This recipe combines the tasty garlic bread tradition but uses extra virgin olive oil in place of the butter and whole garlic cloves with kosher salt in place of garlic salt. This delicious olive oil garlic bread is easy, too.

I’ve got two methods for making this recipe – one for an entire loaf and the other for slices only. The entire loaf method makes soft garlic bread. The toaster method makes crunchy bread or toast.

Delicious Olive Oil Garlic Bread

Here’s how to make an entire loaf of delicious olive oil garlic bread:

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of Italian bread, sliced
  • 3-4 garlic cloves
  • 2 teaspoons of kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup of California Olive Ranch extra virgin olive oil

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Using a mortar and pestle, mash 3-4 cloves of garlic in 2 teaspoons of kosher salt for about 2 minutes until it’s a smooth paste. (Not sure how to use a mortar and pestle? It’s easy.)
  3. Pour 1/2 cup California Olive Ranch extra virgin olive oil into a small bowl or a glass measuring cup.
  4. Add garlic and salt paste to California Olive Ranch extra virgin olive oil and whisk together until well combined.
  5. Next, place bread on a piece of aluminum foil. Be sure to cut foil long enough for entire loaf to be wrapped when done.
  6. Then, with a pastry brush, brush the California Olive Ranch extra virgin olive oil, garlic and salt mixture onto one side of each slice of bread.
  7. If there’s any mixture left, brush other side of bread and the top of the loaf.
  8. Fold foil around bread by starting at the top and fold the sides in with seams pointing upward. This is to make sure nothing leaks out.
  9. Place foil package in 375 degree oven for 20-30 minutes – or until bread is steaming hot.
  10. Remove bread from foil and enjoy.

We leave our extra virgin olive oil in a covered dish on the kitchen counter so this tasty toast can be made at any time.

You can sprinkle this with Parmesan cheese and make a cheese melt or add hummus and turn it into a hearty snack. If you’re assigned to bring an appetizer to a party, follow these steps but use a baguette slices on a baking sheet and toast the entire loaf in the oven until they’re crunchy.

Enjoy!
